Originating from my travels through the southwestern United States, this piece pays homage to two very different sides of nature. The canyons and mountains, carved and built over millions of years, stand today as they did yesterday and as they will tomorrow. In many ways, the sense of grounding we feel comes not just from the massive scale of these features but also from their resilience and supremely slow yielding to the forces around them. In contrast, the eclipse - lasting only a few fleeting minutes - captures us in the clarity of being present in the moment. Although the sunlight may be blocked, our sense of wonder opens an inner light, revealing laughter and awe that are always present around us.

Rising gracefully from still waters, each lily seems to float effortlessly, yet its roots run deep beneath the surface, providing a strong foundation. It is a symbol of both fragility and endurance, much like the surrounding ancient temples, overtaken by the roots of trees and the decay of time. Tranquility and persistence are mirrored in both, reflected on the water’s surface.
